Frequently Answered Questions

Is Saxbi going to be delivered for any other platforms?

It’s entirely possible to develop the Saxbi app on other platforms, but at this time, all of Saxifrage Systems resources have been made on the iOS platform and iPad. We believe that iOS offers the industry’s best platform for developing mobile applications and is the most widely deployed device.

Is Saxbi available for iPhone?

At this time, Saxbi is not developed for the iPhone. The original decision to build Saxbi was based on the fact that the iPad offered so much more screen real estate than the iPhone. Although iOS offers the ability to write universal apps that work on both devices, for the time being Saxbi will remain iPad only.

What do I need to use Saxbi?

You need an iPad and an Essbase server. Beyond that you just need to deploy Saxbi Server to your environment and then download the app (a free download) to your device. Saxbi Server is then administered by your IT department or a Saxbi Partner, who will configure views and reports that your users can use.

Will Saxbi work with Planning databases?

Yes! Insofar as a Planning database is just a special Essbase database, you can use Saxbi to view reports of data that come out of your Planning database.

What’s up with the name?

The founder of Saxifrage Systems LLC, Jason Jones, grew up reading quite a few science fiction books. One of his favorites was the Mars Trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson. One of the central characters of this trilogy is Saxifrage Russell. Saxifrage is named after a beautiful alpine flower whose name roughly translates to “stone breaker” (how apropos!). Saxbi is derived from the combination of saxifrage and BI (business intelligence). And lastly, just for fun, under the hood the Saxbi Server core engine is called “Stellaris Core”, which is a particular type of saxifrage.
