Requirements

Saxbi has modest but particular requirements:

Saxbi App

  • iPad or iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.0 or newer. Saxbi utilizes various features in this newest version of iOS.

Saxbi Server

  • Windows Server (2003, 2008) with Java JRE 1.6+
  • Ability to open a port in the firewall for incoming requests
  • 100 MB hard disk space
  • 1 GB RAM (2+ GB recommended)
  • Essbase EDS/APS server to link with

Typical Deployment

Saxbi Server has been engineered to be very easy to deploy. The typical Saxbi Server installer just needs to be placed in a directory on a Windows server. From there it can be installed as a service (or can be run by simply running a script, for ad hoc testing). By default, Saxbi Server runs using its own database to store data (built on top of the wonderful H2 Database). By coming “batteries included”, Saxbi is able to be up and running in minutes, without the need to coordinate deployment and configuration of a separate relational database. Believe it or not, after simply opening a port on your server’s firewall, Saxbi is ready to go! Of course, it doesn’t contain anything useful at that point, but Saxbi is working and can be connected to with the Saxbi app.

A little bit of setup is necessary in order to start using Saxbi. This involves setting up a connection to your Hyperion Essbase server, configuring some views (if you can pull it with Excel, you can pull it with Saxbi!), and testing things out. Saxbi has been engineered with ease of administration in mind, so once your connections and other things are put in place, you can reuse them over and over again without having to go through the hassle of setting them up.
